The Mine Experience

Joining the Cumberland Halloween Parade?

Stop by the Cumberland Museum’s haunting coal mine before the parade begins. From the depths of each seam men were smothered in fire-damp and black-damp kept company by bats and rats alike. The horrors of the working conditions were real, “Tale Brown, he was an old miner too, he had a pick drove right up his nose here and come out and shook on the roof and couldn’t get him out – I was the smallest there so I had to get the saw and I went in there and cut the pick off, got him out, took him to hospital with a pick handle stickin right up in the … Yeh, and he survived” – but will you?

This Halloween take your chances on a walk through the Museum’s replica mine and experience a day in the life of a Cumberland coal miner.
