At No. 1 townsite, Japanese migrants in Cumberland formed many communities. These self-sufficient groups fostered strong solidarity, enduring even the most challenging circumstances. Imagine the crack of a baseball bat and the cheers of friends and the smell of Cumberland Chow Mein as you learn about the joys, friendships and challenges of Japanese Canadian families in British Columbia.

Meet at No.1 Japanese Townsite parking lot. Travel west on Dunsmuir until you come to a 4 way stop. Turn left onto Sutton Rd, which turns into Comox Lake Rd. Continue for approximately 1 KM and you will pass a pull off/ parking area on the left that is the Chinatown Historic site. Keep going until you see a sign marking No. 1 Japanese Town Historic Site, turn left into a large parking area
